The relationship between Jacob and the Lakers has been growing for some time. A multi-season sponsorship agreement was announced in October 2019, while the famed Los Angeles personal injury lawyer has openly expressed his liking for the team, having been a Lakers fan as a young boy in school.
In a 2019 NBA.com article, Emrani said, “As a grade-school student, rooting and cheering for my favorite basketball team, I never could have imagined that I would one day be a sponsor of the best NBA franchise. But this isn’t just for me, this is for all of the fans in Los Angeles. We look for this relationship to help strengthen our philanthropic efforts in the community.”
Since then, Jacob has hardly limited the goals of this sponsorship to publicity. It has provided fans with opportunities to engage with his brand and the Lakers via social media.
In-arena fan engagement has also been a staple of this partnership. Jacob Emrani sponsored the Call Jacob Selfie Race, in which selected fans were featured on the arena videoboard. Those who submitted selfies were also eligible for cash prizes.
In 2020, Jacob selected 12 lucky fans to win tickets and join him in a STAPLES Center suite during one game. Spending time with other local Lakers fanatics enabled him to share his enthusiasm and give back to the community. Residents already knew his name, as CallJacob’s billboards have dotted the Los Angeles skyline for years (these included advertisements honoring Lakers’ forward LeBron James in a 2018 campaign).
